The Alpine 700W sits in the same Japanese-market navigation family as the 700D and 007WV series, all of which boot their entire navigation and multimedia system from a single SD card rather than any internal storage.

The 700W reads its maps, settings, and calibration data from this card every time it starts, rather than storing anything internally. That works well until the card is removed, formatted by accident, or simply wears out after years of heat under the dash.
